From the Policy Statement of the Umweltgewerkschaft e.V.:
“To… avert a global environmental catastrophe, we need a new level of commitment from the environmental movement and a globally dominant force to counter the main culprits in corporate headquarters, banks, and governments. (…) We seek close solidarity between the labor and environmental movements and are uniting as an environmental organization based on union principles— locally, nationally, and internationally. The trade union ideal stands for the common struggle for our existential interests in life and the future, for a fighting spirit, solidarity, and the broadest possible nonpartisan alliance. We advocate for a social alternative in which the unity of humanity and nature is realized.”

Statement of Solidarity from the Environmental Union with the GDL in Its Struggle
Colleagues!
DB wants to get rid of a militant union.
Colleagues in the train cabs (and everyone else) are experiencing the rail companies’ pursuit of profit in the form of increased stress, pressure to perform, higher demands, and staff cuts.
You are right to demand, in addition to a pay raise of 555 euros per month and a one-time inflation adjustment bonus of 3,000 euros, a reduction in working hours from 38 hours per week to 35 hours for shift workers, with full wage compensation.
Reducing working hours is an important way to counter the growing pressure. However, DB does not want to grant this to its “dear employees”
. Instead, it prefers to pay the board members extra bonuses for their poor performance.
Yet as a form of public transportation, rail is a key factor in the fight against the environmental and climate crisis that is already underway. Only when more drivers switch to rail, only when more freight is transported by rail, will CO2 emissions decrease. This also requires more colleagues in the train cabs who can operate these trains. And who can afford an apartment in Stuttgart, Munich, or Hamburg on a meager salary?
However, DB is part of the root cause of the capitalist crisis—it makes profits at the expense of your well-being, the environment, and society.
The train drivers deserve our full support in their struggle.
We stand in solidarity with you!

Press Release from the Environmental Union: Solidarity with Greta Thunberg Against the Media Smear Campaign!

Executive Board of the Environmental Union, Oct. 30, 2023
PRESS RELEASE:
Solidarity with Greta Thunberg against the media smear campaign!
Stop the attempts to divide the global youth environmental movement Fridays for Future!
Long live international solidarity!
The conflict over the escalating tensions in the Middle East has also become a key issue for the environmental movement.
Among others, merkur.de ran the headline on Oct. 27, 2023:“Greta’s Climate Saviors Are Following Hamas’s Lead.”
The Green Party and Fridays for Future Germany are distancing themselves from Greta Thunberg.
On October 27, 2023, Josef Schuster, the chairman of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, even demanded that Fridays for Future Germany “change its name.” This is nothing less than a call to divide the global youth environmental movement! Why, in this situation, is Luisa Neubauer—the German “face” of FFF—distancing herself from Greta Thunberg of all people, instead of rejecting such attempts to sow division?
Greta Thunberg, a role model for many young people and children, is being targeted as a Hamas supporter or someone who downplays fascist terror.
She herself says:“It goes without saying—or so I thought, at least—that I am against the horrific attacks by Hamas. As I’ve already said, the world must speak out and demand an immediate ceasefire, justice, and freedom for the Palestinians and all affected civilians.”(merkur.de, Oct. 27, 2023)
We expressly support Greta's call for justice for Palestine!
We strongly condemn the undeniably barbaric terror perpetrated by the religious-fascist Hamas against the Israeli civilian population. However, this does not justify the mass bombing of the entire Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip! We criticize the fact that any criticism of Israel’s decades-long oppression of the Palestinians is slandered as anti-Semitism.
This debate also clarifies the positions in this important dispute within the environmental movement.
Long live international solidarity!
For the unification of the labor, environmental, and peace movements in Israel and Palestine as well!
An immediate end to the war!
